The M581 mk2 is an updated version of the M581, which itself was based on the much acclaimed M81R preamp reconfigured to accommodate the popular 500-series module format.
Sonically, the mk2 is identical to the original. The big changes with the new model are:
- The front XLR input has been removed.
- The front instrument input is fed through the input transformer for its sonic character.
- The mk2 has a power-on delay to prevent PSU errors.
- Gain:-80dB to -25dB or -20dB tp +5dB with the -30dB PAD activated.
- XLR input impedance: 1200 / 300 ohm selectable with a frontmounted switch, 1200 is default.
- 48v with “on” indicator
- Polarity reverse
- Output level control
- Instrument input: impedance ~68kohm, gain range -80dB to -25dB
- Output: Headroom >+26dB @ 600ohm load (internal 600ohms termination as default)
- Distortion THD+N: < 0,07% @ 1kHz , +20dB
