Check out the videos from the day Dennis from Independent Audio gave us a demo of the Tango controller: Meth Lab videos
The Tango passive extension bay allows you add an extra 12 faders and 16 soft keys to a 20 channel Tango system and maximize the system at 32 channels.
"Active" in this context means that this controller contains some of the processing or "brains" of the master controller which aren't found in the "passive" expansion bay.
Because of the way the Tango system is designed, the active module is only needed when building a full 32 channel system. The Tango master controller has enough brains to handle itself and the less-expensive passive controller, so buying an active module for a 20ch system is overkill. If you're money's burning a hole in your pocket, we'll take it. But we'd rather not sell you something you don't need.
