The “Si” is an exceptionally clean, true to the source and low noise preamplifier, with a very healthy amount of input headroom. It has a significant amount of gain which is very useful for low output microphones such as dynamics and ribbons, and certainly not limited to shy output condenser microphones. I found the “Si” worked really well for the Snare using a TAB modified SM57, where it definitely added some a nice forward, low mid emphasis, while keeping the transient attack together, and allowed the detail in the microphone, the source and the room to be heard without any adverse character. The Innovative 10 segment Metering Modes are very helpful for live recording and knowing where you stand with your gain staging, and the output trim is truly essential. Using the “Si” for drum applications, and more percussive rhythm elements, I think it’s a mighty favorable option with for ALL the microphones I have patched into it.
