Workhorse OH Package: Sebatron VMP2000e & (2) KM-69's

If you’re looking to improve your recordings, the best place to start is the analog side of life. Having the “best” front-end for your music can be an endless search, but here at the Methods and Applications Laboratory, we’ve had a great deal of success with the KM-69’s in all situations. We’ve found that when you patch the pair into the Sebatron, they perform like workhorses for a variety of acoustic/rock music.

When using the combo for Stereo applications: I must warn you, the space and clarity with drum overheads is outstanding. Need more channels for Drums and Bass going down during basics? The 4000e 4-channel is the same circuit without the VU’s. [That you don’t need anyway because you’ve got meters on your DAW.] I recently cut vocals with the VMP and the meter was in the red with no audible clipping distortion, so the Sebatron is certainly not lacking headroom.

To my ears; the texture of the VMP2000VU / 4000e is somewhat of a hybrid between the fast, clear transient response of an API, crossed with the “velvety” and mellow character of a Manley mic pre without the “mush” in the bottom…BUT, throw the EQ switches into the mix and you’ve got some really cool, highly original variations on the tone of the preamp for GTR and vocal work.

Peace
A/B
