Just getting into summing outside of your box? Check out our "LEVR Long Enough To Move the World" package and get a Folcrom, an Empirical Labs EL500 2-space 19" rack, plus a few bucks off!
"Give me a LEVR long enough and I’ll move the world." The LEVR is a new 500 series product from JCF's custom shop, and is designed to be a propriety summing solution for a Roll Music System Folcrom Passive Summing Mixer. The LEVR is ultimately TWO mono 500 series cards combined for stereo operation, thus they are sold in pairs. Two XLR inputs on the front of each module provide courtesy inputs for cascading more RMS216 boxes into your system.
The LEVR can be ordered with, or without Cinemag CMOQ-2S output transformers. As Josh tells me, the option for the output transformer is rooted from his days replacing 1272 buss amplifiers, as some people don't want more IRON in the path after they've already tracked through a console with head to toe IRON, and then overdubbed numerous takes though the same signal path. Some prefer IRON at the end, and some don't. It’s a preference thing depending on your equipment selection, if you are using a boat load of transformer ridden equipment in the context of your mix, and then plenty of IRON in the input channels of your console, a cleaner 2-buss response might help maintain clarity and width. It can't collapse onto itself from to much soggy residual effect. This is sort of the idea of passive summing in general, as there is minimal circuitry to color the sound.
