The ViPRE (Variable Impedance Preamp) is possibly the most versatile mic pre we carry as far as tone is concerned. The magic behind the ViPRE comes from its ability to modify the input impedance. By changing the impedance, it also changes the load (measured in Ohms) against what the microphone has to push. Changing the impedance changes the performance of ANY microphone (condenser, ribbon, etc). Hearing your humble mic collection at different impedances will give you a whole new palette of colors and textures to play with, all from the same mic pre.

Groove Tubes ViPRE features
Five unique features that no other preamp offers. Eight-tubes, fully-differential (balanced) signal path with 75dB total gain via precision 1dB and 5dB stepped attenuators, four variable transformer impedances PLUS two balanced-bridged inputs, five variable rise-time settings, precise VU meter with five viewing options, separate +4dB and -10dB transformer outputs, microphone and +4dB line level balanced inputs. Separate instrument input with two options for input sensitivity.
