When Mercenary Audio first met Great River Electronics they were building a great mic pre-amp called the "MP-2MH" (and the 4 channel "MP-4M"). The MP-2 and MP-4 began as a solution to noise problems when using ribbon microphones in classical recording. Several years of optimizing have resulted in a design that is supremely quiet, yet able to handle the highest levels encountered in a rock and roll session, while they just happen to sound awesome. After a couple of years the MP-2NV was born. Beginning with the drawings from 1073 modules, Great River took over and lowered the noise floor, increased the headroom, minimized phase shift. They took an idea from the 70's and made it a modern piece of equipment suitable for the demands of modern recording. As a companion item, the EQ-2NV has joined the ranks of the now legendary Great River Electronics pre-amplifiers. As with the MP-2NV (and single channel ME-1NV) the idea began in the 70's with the 1081 module, but was brought to better function in a modern context. The EQ-1NV is a single channel version of the EQ-2NV, and like it's cousin, the ME-1NV is exactly 1/2 of the 2 channel unit... no corners have been cut. A rack mount kit that will hold one EQ-1NV and one ME-1NV is available to create the MEQ-1NV "channel strip". We get a lot of people referring to the "Mercenary Edition" Great River products (the ME-1NV, MP-2NV, EQ-1NV, EQ-2NV and MEQ-1NV) as OUR products... they're not. They are Great River's pre-amps and EQs, we just did design consultation on the project. Instead of taking a royalty on the product as many design consultants do, we have our "seal of approval" on the front... We don't make a dime more than any other dealer for any Mercenary Editions product by suggesting it, selling it, etc. nor do we get any royalties on any sales from the manufacturer. Yeah, we think it's a great product; if we didn't it wouldn't have our 'seal' on it. Believe what you will from who you want, but that's the truth.
