Some of the most used and abused pieces of equipment in modern recording are dynamic range processors. From compressors to limiters to gates and expanders you have the ability to really screw things up irreparably with the use of inappropriate dynamic range control. Now what is and what isn't appropriate can only be determined by you, the end user. Your sense of aesthetic on the presentation of your music will be the determining factor. We have assembled a roster of dynamic range processors that we have found in our studio (The Methods and Applications Laboratory) to have wonderfully musical personalities. This roster of devices should enable the user to create a dynamic signature that supports the musical statement while giving the user less of an opportunity to do serious damage to the sound. There are many "popular" brands that have been omitted from this list. This is because they were auditioned and rejected by our crew. We're a snotty bunch and don't like tools that aren't the absolute best. Whether you're attracted to an inexpensive FMR RNC or a rather expensive InnerTube Audio Atomic Squeezebox, you will find tools in all price ranges that provide unique and interesting textures to complement the presentation of your music.
