Mercenary Audio - D.W. FEARN (Fearn VT-1, Fearn VT-2, Fearn VT-3, Fearn VT-4, Fearn VT-7)

We first met Doug in 1993 at the AES show in NY. A friend of Fletcher's named Lou Mareska asked if Doug could come in and share some space in our first AES booth. We figured what the hell...if he's willing to kick in for some space, we'll fit him in somewhere, which started a relationship between our firms that will be forever a joy.

The DW Fearn product is really second to none in it's 'tonal size' with opulence and clarity. The product has a depth and third dimension to the tone like nothing else we've ever heard nor experienced.

The first unit we met was the VT-1, a single channel $2,000 mic pre. In 1993, a $2,000 single channel mic pre was unheard of...but when you heard it, you suddenly understood why/how it was worth the $2,000. Following that was the VT-2 [two channel version], and the accessories like the direct boxes, pads, etc. [hey, I bitched about not being able to use it with high output microphones and Doug was kind enough to make a pad...the Direct boxes were a natural extension of the product line.

In 2001, DW Fearn has unveiled their first equalizer. Based on the passive filter networks of the Pultec Equalizers from days past with the immense sounding amplifiers of the VT-1/VT-2...if this thing doesn't change the shape and color of your recordings to a lovely shade of "open and huge"...then we really have to start talking about getting you better microphones and converters...

WARRANTY INFORMATION: D.W. Fearn products come with a 5 year manufacturer's warranty which we double to 10 years, excluding vacuum tubes. Tubes are warrantied by Fearn for 90 days, which we double to 180 days.
