This pre features the same discrete transformer balanced amplifiers as the TG series limiter and offers a creamy, smooth tone with a surprisingly open, clear top end (dare we say nicer than Neve....) The sound, as explained by many users, has a familiar Neve "warmth" and punch, but with a "nicer" expanded top end. In fact the unit does have a small rise in its top end frequency response and some warmth inducing distortion which contribute to its sound.

Impedance switching
Impedance switching is now standard on all TG2 models. The Impedance switching option allows for input impedance of each channel to be switched between the 300Ω and 1200Ω values. This feature is now included and replaces the blank push button on the front panel.

Summing Option
Summing is now standard on all TG2 units. This modification allows summing of the two pre amp channels. The signal is mixed from both pre amps and is sent to the output of the second channel. You can now bypass your console using great sounding discreet circuits and maintain a minimal signal path.

Input gain control
Features a 1200Ω transformer balanced input with 5-75 db of gain.

Output
Functioning as a console fader, this control is placed after the gain stage and before the output stage. This allows for trimming of the input signal between the 5 db steps on the input switch, as well as allowing the user to run the input very hot (for extra coloration) without distorting the recorder. In most cases this will be left in the full position.

Direct In
This is an unbalanced high impedance input for guitar, bass, samples etc. The DI switch on the front panel can also be used as a mute switch when using the rear panel mic input.

Phase Reverse - Reverses polarity of the input stage of the pre amp.

48 volt phantom power
Power for condenser microphones such as AKG C414 and Neumann U87. This will destroy ribbon mics, so use caution when connecting those types.

Warming up tracks
The TG2's warm, natural sound can be used to spice up already recorded tracks or even entire mixes. Just run them through the mic inputs on the rear panel, set the input to minimum(+5db), and back off the output slightly to make unity gain. You may even want to run the gain at higher settings to add extra coloration (this can be fun).

Chandler TG-2 Summing Mod for older TG-2 units.

All prices include the power supply which other shops [the ones with prices lower than Mercenary's] make you purchase as a separate item. Unless you're pretty handy and have 24 and 48 vdc floating around your studio, you're going to need the power supply. We're kinda lazy at Mercenary Audio, so rather than giving you the "absolute lowest price" then having to call you to remind you that you need to pony up additional cash for the power supply, we just include it in the price from the get-go. This saves everyone time. If you really want a Chandler unit without the power supply, we can do that...
