Sticking a microphone inside a kick drum can be an uphill battle, but is often a necessary evil. Even if the drum is tuned properly, and the guy kicking it has some authority, “inside kick” tracks tend to sound a lot like bouncing a basketball in a dumpster. Fiddling with equalizers and insane compression can morph the basketball into a drum sound…or you can just stick an M88TG in the hole and forget about all of that.
