API 2500 vs. Drawmer 1968 Mercenary Edition

I'm gonna make you choose between your children........ API 2500 - DRAWMER 1968 - ES8 - Which one do you suggest.....??? As a reminder the stuff I do is more like the Roots or Tribe Called Quest stuff sonically..........

For real roots kind of stuff I would definitely [no hesitations!!] recommend the 1968. It has a roundness that really makes the music gel without sacrificing the depth of the stereo field, and with the use of the "big" switch will give you a setup where the overall buss compression modulates from the vocals and not the low end.

Ever notice that a bass player can be using a 300w amp and still isn't louder than a guitar player with a 35w amp? It takes a lot of electricity to properly form a bass wave... which is why the "big" switch works so well... it filters out the low frequency information from the control circuit of the gain reduction cell... so the 2 buss compression modulates from the vocals [the actual loudest thing in the mix even though it's not pushing the most electricity].

The API 2500 is a very versatile unit, and if you were looking for something that could be very pretty and very aggressive with the change of a few buttons then I'd have recommended it... but from the perspective of depth and opulence of tone, I think the 1968 is the way to go.

Then again... I did spend a considerable amount of time working with the designers to make sure the 1968 was indeed something that EXACTLY suited my tastes... so I am kinda prejudiced in it's favor.
